Earthly Messenger
In 1610 Galileo published Sidereus Nuncius, or Starry Messenger, discussing the observations he made through his self-made telescope. His discoveries about the surface of the moon, the stars, the moons of Jupiter, and the Milky Way brought a new understanding of the cosmos. With lenses he ground by hand, he built a tool that helped change how we see the universe and our place in it.
Earthly Messenger focuses on grasping more proximate uncertainties. When looking through a telescope or spyglass the world we are used to seeing briefly disappears and we are given a new perspective.
Observation and perception become a conscious and personal pursuit. In seeking knowledge I build my own tools to experience distance and empathy. The screen, serving as an architectural vestige or metaphorical veil, becomes a lens to look through.
